Pupils in Wolverhampton are excelling at Key Stage 2 – and performing above the regional and national average in many measures – according to official data released this week.

The Key Stage 2 attainment data for the 2024-25 academic year shows that 65% of pupils in Wolverhampton achieved the expected standard in Reading, Writing & Maths combined. This was an increase of three percentage points year-on-year, and three percentage points above the 2024-25 regional and national average of 62%.

In addition, 10% of pupils achieved a higher standard in Reading, Writing & Maths combined last year, which was also well above the national average of 8%, and the regional average of 7%.

In Reading, 77% of pupils in Wolverhampton achieved the expected standard in 2024-25, two percentage points above the national and regional average of 75%.

In Writing, 74% of Wolverhampton pupils were assessed at the expected standard or above last year, which was once again two percentage points above the national and regional average of 72%.

Meanwhile, in Mathematics, 74% of pupils achieved the expected standard in 2024-25, which was in line with the national and regional average.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: "This is a truly outstanding achievement by our Key Stage 2 pupils, who are once again outperforming their peers both regionally and nationally.

"Such success is only possible because of the relentless dedication of our leaders, teachers, governors, parents, and above all the incredible determination of the pupils themselves. It also reflects the council's unwavering commitment to investing in education and ensuring every child is given the best possible start in life.

"And let’s not forget that 97% of schools in Wolverhampton are now rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, the highest ever. With more and more children able to attend schools of this calibre, the results – as shown in the Key Stage 2 data published this week – speak for themselves. Well done to everyone involved."
