Staff, pupils and families at Parkfield Primary School are celebrating a very positive Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors visited the school in December and, in their report published recently, found that pupils achieve 'high standards' in Key Stage 2 tests, with outcomes above the national average in reading, writing and mathematics.
Leaders are 'rigorous’ in ensuring pupils secure essential knowledge at each stage of their learning, and teaching is 'highly effective' in improving the achievement of disadvantaged pupils, who do so ‘particularly well'.
Leaders have designed a broad and balanced curriculum that is coherently structured, prioritising the development of vocabulary and oracy so pupils build strong spoken and written skills.
The foundational knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics 'is well sequenced, ambitious and taught consistently well', with staff quickly identifying pupils with gaps so they can keep up with their peers.
At Early Years, a well-sequenced curriculum gives vocabulary and communication a high profile, with phonics delivered effectively, ensuring that children progress well. The 'highly effective' writing curriculum builds on children’s interests, meaning they are highly motivated and produce quality work.
Staff provide opportunities for children to develop physically, socially, emotionally and creatively, and build positive relationships with families through home visits and regular workshops.
Pupils with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) 'achieve particularly well', with many ready for the next stage of learning. Staff receive high-quality training so that they can deliver effective support, and design appropriate steps in lessons that help pupils with SEND to progress.
Leaders closely monitor pupils who may face barriers to their learning or wellbeing, actively engaging with families, professionals and external partners and working hard to ensure they can participate in high-quality experiences. As a result, these pupils 'achieve well, feel a sense of belonging and thrive'.
Leaders fully understand the school’s strengths and areas for development, with governors and trustees offering support and challenge, while staff, at all levels, 'have the expertise required to perform their roles well'.
Pupils develop the knowledge and skills to be responsible citizens, understand and live out British values, and make a positive contribution to their community. They are described as happy, kind and enjoying school. Parents and carers are also highly positive about the support their children receive.
Under its new inspection regime, Ofsted concluded that Parkfield is at the Expected Standard for Achievement, Curriculum and teaching, Early years, Inclusion, Leadership and governance, and Personal development and well-being, with Attendance and behaviour judged as Needing Attention, though behaviour itself was noted to be good. The school also meets safeguarding standards.
Headteacher Tracey Robinson said: "I am delighted that the Ofsted report captures the outstanding progress our children achieve here at Parkfield.“Our pupils continue to impress us every day with their enthusiasm, perseverance, and joy for learning, and this recognition reflects their hard work and character.“I am equally proud of our staff, whose dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment ensure that every child thrives. This report is a testament to the strength of our whole school community.”
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, added: "This is a really positive outcome for Parkfield Primary School and a testament to the hard work and commitment of leaders, staff, pupils and families.
"The report makes clear that Parkfield is a school where children achieve highly, feel supported and are given the foundations they need to thrive. I am particularly pleased to see the strong progress of disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND – Parkfield’s dedication to ensuring every child feels a sense of belonging really shines through, and I look forward to the school further building on this success."
