Read to the Beat and discover the joy of reading this summer

Children are being given the chance to fall in love with reading as part of this year's Summer Reading Challenge, which is now underway across Wolverhampton's libraries.

Created by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge is a free, fun-packed way to keep kids reading and learning all summer long.

This year’s theme, Read to the Beat, is powered by Universal Music Group UK and celebrates the joy of music and the power it has to move, inspire, and connect people through the magic of reading. It is brought to life with illustrations by award-winning author and illustrator, Harry Woodgate.

Participants can take part in competitions and will receive a certificate and medal on completion of the challenge, with the city’s libraries hosting dozens of free activities over the coming weeks.

Councillor Jeszemma Howl, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Governance and Digital, said: "There is something truly magical about opening a book and finding yourself completely lost in another world.

“Whether it's embarking on a great adventure, meeting unforgettable characters, or discovering new ideas, reading can spark a lifelong love of learning and imagination. The Summer Reading Challenge is a wonderful way to encourage children to experience that magic for themselves while having fun, building confidence, and enjoying everything our libraries have to offer.”
