Children and young people across Wolverhampton are being encouraged to get ready for the biggest Yo! Active summer holiday programme so far.

Yo! Active is delivered by WV Active and Wolves Foundation and offers a wide range of free activities all year round to children and young people aged up to 18, or 25 for care leavers or those with a disability, whose family pay Council Tax to the City of Wolverhampton Council.

Children and young people can take their pick from over 40 hours of free physical activity sessions per week, including free swimming, gym and court hire, multi-sport sessions, netball and special activities for the under 5s.

There are also tailored sessions for school holidays, with this year's summer programme – running from Monday 20 July to Friday 28 August – the biggest so far. Highlights include Taster Swimming Sessions and Family Splash and Sports, and sessions at WV Active sites and community venues across the city including Dance, Just Ramps and Nerf. See the full timetable at https://www.yowolves.co.uk/events.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: "This summer is our biggest Yo! Active programme yet, giving even more children, young people and families the chance to enjoy an action-packed range of free activities courtesy of WV Active and Wolves Foundation.

"Becoming more physically active can help improve heart health, build strong bones and muscles, control weight and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and it's also a great way to make new friends.

"Over 20,000 children and young people have already signed up to Yo! Active, and I'd encourage other youngsters, parents and guardians to check out what is on offer so that they don't miss out."

Tom Warren, General Manager of Wolves Foundation, added: “We’re really looking forward to an exciting summer of Yo! Active, with a diverse and inclusive programme of activities taking place right across Wolverhampton.

"From sport and physical activity to creative and wellbeing sessions, there’s something for every young person to enjoy, stay active and connect with others in their community over the holidays.”
