Foster Care Fortnight 2025 begins today (Monday 12 May) and Wolverhampton will be celebrating The Power of Relationships. This year’s theme focuses on the bonds that form between foster families, children and the wider community, and all they do to ensure children are cared for and supported to thrive.
The Fostering for Wolverhampton team are proud to support a growing community of dedicated foster parents who make a life-changing difference every day. Foster parents can be single, married, or in a relationship – and they’re never alone on their journey. Support is available 24/7, including buddy support from experienced foster parents, plus a regular, tax-exempt fee and allowance to help cover the cost of caring for a child.
Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “Every child deserves to feel safe, supported and loved – and our foster parents help make that happen. Fostering can be a truly life-changing experience, not just for the young people but for the foster parents too.
“We’re fortunate to have nearly 200 incredible fostering households across Wolverhampton, but more children need safe and stable homes.
“If you have a spare room and love to give, please come and find out more – your story could be the next to change a life.”
Throughout Foster Care Fortnight, the Fostering for Wolverhampton team will be out and about across the city – from places like WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams to Lupo Lounge. They will also be hosting online information sessions, making it even easier for people to join from the comfort of home.
Councillor Coogan added: “These drop-ins and sessions are a great chance to have a casual chat with the team, ask any questions you’ve been wondering about, and hear real stories from people who foster. Whether you’re just curious, want to know how fostering fits around work, or are ready to take the first step, our friendly and supportive Fostering for Wolverhampton team are here to help you explore what fostering could look like for you.
“Come and say hello; you might leave with more than just information – you might find your next calling.”
