Council celebrates National Play Day with free activities

The City of Wolverhampton Council will be hosting a series of free summer activities in celebration of National Play Day, providing fun for young children and their families.

The events are designed to offer enjoyable and engaging experiences for children, promoting the importance of play in their development.

They kick off at Bantock Park on Wednesday, 7 August, continue at Bilston Craft Gallery on Wednesday, 14 August, and conclude at West Park on Wednesday, 21 August. Each event will run from 11am-3pm and is open to children aged 0-5 years, with older siblings welcome to join in the fun.

Activities include messy play, so please ensure your children are appropriately dressed. Parents must always supervise their children during the events. There is no need to book in advance; families can simply turn up on the day and enjoy a range of activities, from arts and crafts to outdoor games. For more details, please contact Bonnie on 07464 981893 or Emma on 07581 051915.

National Play Day, the UK's annual celebration of play, is observed on the first Wednesday of August. This year, Playday will be celebrated on 7 August, with the theme of ‘Play – the Culture of Childhood,’ highlighting the rich and lively culture of children’s play.

The theme underscores the importance of play in fostering health, happiness, and creativity among children. It celebrates how play helps children develop a sense of culture, encourages cultural exploration, fosters an appreciation for diversity, and helps children build relationships and connect with their communities.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, stated: "We are thrilled to host these events as part of National Play Day. Whether you join us at Bantock Park, Bilston Craft Gallery, or West Park, we encourage families to make every day an adventure through play."
