Change a local child’s life by Fostering for Wolverhampton

People in Wolverhampton are being encouraged to give local children the best possible start in life – by opening their homes and becoming foster parents.

The Fostering for Wolverhampton autumn recruitment campaign gets underway today (Monday 16 September) with the launch of a fostering pop-up shop at (01902 Shop), Queen Square, at 10am. Members of the Fostering for Wolverhampton team will be on hand offering advice and guidance to individuals and couples who are thinking of fostering.

The shop will be open from 10am-3pm today, Wednesday (18 September), Friday (20 September), Saturday (21 September), Tuesday 24 September and Thursday 26 September. To find out more, please visit www.fosteringforwolverhampton.com/events or call 01902 551133.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “We are fortunate in Wolverhampton to have so many dedicated foster parents who combine a desire to help children with a commitment to providing the best possible care.

“Fostering can truly be a life-changing experience, both for foster parents and the child or young person they care for. We'd love to hear from people who have both a spare room and of course love in their heart to help local children by fostering.”

Foster parents can be sole carers, married or in a relationship – and they won't be on their own as help and support is available 24 hours a day. They will receive six months' “buddy support” from experienced foster parent who are there to befriend and guide them through the system.

Supervising social workers provide intensive support for the first six weeks of a placement and then every month thereafter, while foster parents can get help through other foster parents in our fostering community.

Placements can be anything from a few days to a number of years, and foster parents receive a regular, tax exempt fee and allowance to cover the cost of bringing up the child.
