High praise for Outstanding-rated Ashmore Park Nursery

June 25, 2019

Ashmore Park Nursery has been judged to be Outstanding once more, with Ofsted praising the school's commitment to giving its "children the best start in life".

Inspector Bogusia Matusiak-Varley said the nursery school’s leadership team has "maintained the outstanding quality of education in the school" since its last inspection.

She said Headteacher Susan Lacey and her team have done this by researching international best practice and are well supported by governors who share their passion for "making the nursery the hub of learning".

They have created a "highly stimulating environment for learning" which taps into children's natural curiosity, while the "innovative and extensive curriculum promotes all aspects of literacy and numeracy extremely well".

Children show sustained concentration for significant periods of time, because they are highly interested in learning. The school's well-resourced outdoor area is used regularly to develop children's physical skills.

She said Mrs Lacey and her team know their school extremely well and have "committed wholeheartedly to improving on previous best performance".

Children make "outstanding progress" and many "exceed the expectations for their age in all areas of learning due to high-quality teaching". As a result, children and well prepared for the next stages of their education, leaving as "confident, inquisitive learners”. Parents and carers are "rightly delighted with the progress their children make".

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "I would like to congratulate Susan Lacey and her team on this wonderful report which is full of praise for the excellent work that everyone connected with Ashmore Park Nursery School are doing for their children.

“I would also like to congratulate the nursery on their willingness to assess good practice on an international basis, thus ensuring that they are not just outstanding in the eyes of Ofsted, but also following world-leading practice.”
