Good rated school is "stimulating place to learn"

June 21, 2019

Wodensfield Primary School has been rated "Good" by Ofsted, which says it is a "well-led and stimulating place to learn".

Inspector Heather Phillips visited the Woden Avenue, Wednesfield, school last term and found Headteacher Samantha Walker has developed a "strong leadership team to help continue to improve the quality of education provided".

She said that academic standards in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of Key Stage 2 are high due to good quality teaching. The school has identified "clear strengths and areas for improvement", and has worked effectively with the City of Wolverhampton Council and an alliance of local schools to make “good progress” since its last inspection.

The governing body is also using its expertise to good effect, and has a positive impact on school improvement by supporting and challenging leaders. The commitment of governors and leaders to the wellbeing of staff and pupils has "created a positive workplace for all; morale is high and staff say they are proud to work at the school".

The culture of safeguarding at Wodensfield Primary is strong; pupils "know how to keep themselves safe" and "know if they have a problem it will be sorted out".

Parents and carers shared positive views of the school with the inspector, saying their children "are safe, happy and well taught". Parents also commented on positive relationships in school, saying Wodensfield Primary is "highly inclusive and caters well for all abilities and interests".

Mrs Walker said: "We are delighted that the report celebrates the strengths of our school and the achievements of our pupils.”

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone at Wodensfield Primary School on their Good rating.

“The positive inspection report highlights many achievements over the last few years under the strong leadership of Samantha Walker and her team and I look forward to this good progress continuing in the future."
