Low Hill Nursery School has once again been rated Outstanding. This is the second time that Low Hill Nursery School has been rated outstanding with the previous inspection taking place in 2012.
Ofsted described Low Hill Nursery which provides early years provision for children from 2 - 4 years old as “a very caring environment..” and “..the schools welcoming environment is greatly valued by parents". One parent said that she feels “that the school is like a family to me”.
Since the last inspection leaders “have successfully expanded the range of provision at the school. In September 2016, a resource base for children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities opened. These children are achieving particularly well. They play and learn very well alongside their peers and are just as excited by the tasks given”.
Leaders have “helped staff to ask well-chosen questions that encourage children to think and talk about what they are learning. This is deepening children’s understanding. Children quickly grow in confidence to talk and share their learning with the staff and increasingly with one another”.
Staff at the Jenks Avenue, school “show a high level of pride in their work. Staff expertise is developed very well through the carefully designed training that has been put in place”. Staff were also commended on the way they “set activities which fully capture the children’s interests. Children have many valuable opportunities to investigate and explore. The children’s interest in their learning is seen in their high levels of concentration, the enjoyment in their faces and their laughter”.
There was also praise for safeguarding standards at the school, "Leaders put safeguarding at the heart of everything they do. They know the specific needs of individuals and work tirelessly to support children for whom there are concerns. The designated leaders for safeguarding work very closely with external agencies to ensure that children are kept safe.”
The inspector said that Low Hill Nursery School works closely with parents stating that “parents spoke of the great progress their children make. One parent spoke of his family’s “amazement” at the things his child can do”. After talking with parents the inspector commented on how “parents spoke of how involved they now feel and how much they know about their children’s progress”.
The Governing body was given praise “Governors are highly committed to the school. The Chair of Governors provides a high level of service. She brings much wisdom to the role, and this helps the school to thrive. Governors have the best interests of the school at heart, as one said, we want the best for our children”.
The Outstanding judgement is Low Hills second since 2012 and Head Teacher Gill Owen said:
"We are extremely proud of the Outstanding achievements at Low Hill Nursery school. The community deserve the very best provision and we are pleased that Ofsted have acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the Team and Governors.
