On Friday 10th November, governors, staff and children welcomed The Right Reverend Michael Ipgrave, Bishop of Lichfield. The visit was held to officially bless and dedicate the new school buildings following the latest school expansion new build which sees Bilston CE as a 2 form entry primary school catering for pupils aged between 4 and 11 years old.
Cllr A. Johnson Chair of Governors, Rev Dave Wills from St Leonard’s Church as well as the School’s Head Girl and Head Boy, welcomed the Bishop and once in school the Bishop and other valued members of the Governing Body and school community were treated to a musical performance by the school recorder group and the school choir.
Following the musical performance, the Head Girl and Head Boy took the visitors on a tour of our school. They shared with visitors a brief history of Bilston CE Primary highlighting the new and improved accommodation as well as the school achievements in a range of different contexts over the past years.
The tour ended with light refreshments for all visitors and the Bishop with the Head Girl and Boy cutting a specially made cake for the event. The Bishop and other visitors then joined the whole school for Worship.
Rev Dave Wills introduced ‘Bishop Mike’ to the children and talked about the role of the Bishop in the Church. The Bishop and Rev Dave unveiled a plaque recording the formal dedication of our school expansion. The Bishop then led the school in Worship giving thanks to God for our school. This was followed by Worship through Song with Bishop Mike joining in with the wonderful singing in praise of God. It was a special day for the school to remember.
