Warstones Primary Maintains “Good” Ofsted Rating

May 24, 2017

A Wolverhampton school continues to be "Good", according to Ofsted.

Inspector Tim Hill visited Warstones Primary School on 30 March and found the leadership team had "maintained the good quality of education" at the school since its last inspection in 2013.

Describing Warstones Primary as a "happy place with very diligent staff who do their best to help children enjoy and achieve", Mr Hill said that headteacher Fiona Feeney provides "strong leadership" and is "very well supported by a highly capable and committed deputy headteacher".

Collectively, they have communicated a "clear vision and have high yet realistic expectations about the school's future".

Since her appointment in 2015, Mrs Feeney has "taken a robust approach to fully evaluating the school's performance" and has a "clear understanding" of what is working well and what action is needed to improve the school further.

Ofsted said that priorities for improvement "are being tackled with rigour". Staff are also "committed to making the necessary improvements for the benefits of the pupils".

The "dedicated governors play a pivotal role in supporting and challenging the school". They are champions for the pupils and "expect nothing less than the best" from staff in enabling pupils to meet their needs.

Safeguarding is effective, with ensuring that pupils are kept safe from harm "a top priority for everyone at the school". Staff are vigilant for any signs that a child may be at risk. Pupils "enjoy coming to school and benefit from the interesting curriculum on offer", and the large majority are well behaved in lessons, play well together and treat each other respectfully.

Mrs Feeney said: "I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of the whole team at Warstones has been recognised in such a positive way.

“All staff, in every capacity, strive to make Warstones a school for all to be proud of. Our children deserve the best learning opportunities available and that is what we try to give them here.”

Alex Jones, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Assistant Director for Education, said: "Congratulations to the staff, pupils, parents and governors at Warstones Primary School for this excellent report.

"I am pleased they have maintained their Good rating, demonstrating the high standard of education they are providing to their pupils.

"More schools in Wolverhampton are now rated as either Good or Outstanding than ever before, and this is great news, not just for the schools themselves, but for the City as a whole."
