Ministerial praise for school after outstanding maths results

March 13, 2017

The Minister of State for School Standards has praised a Wolverhampton school for outstanding performance in mathematics.

Nick Gibb MP wrote to Lynne Law, Executive Headteacher at St Martin's Church of England Primary School in Bradley, after every pupil reached or exceeded the expected standard in mathematics at the end of Key Stage 2.

It means that the Wallace Road school is now in the top 2% of primaries in England for attainment in mathematics.

Mr Gibb said: "I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils for the very high standard that pupils in your school have achieved in mathematics in the 2016 Key Stage 2 assessments.

"We want to ensure that every child has the necessary fluency in mathematics to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and your school has provided this to all your pupils. Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards."

Mrs Law said: “I am delighted to have our children’s achievements acknowledged. Our approach to the teaching of mathematics enables all our pupils to gain a clear and deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

“We look forward to reaping similar rewards as the method is embedded in our other schools across St Martin’s Multi Academy Trust.”

Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "We are determined to further raise standards of education for children and young people in Wolverhampton, and for more schools to achieve fantastic results like this.

"It is great to see the efforts of teachers, pupils and parents at St Martin's Church of England Primary recognised by the Minister of State for School Standards, and I would like to congratulate them on their outstanding performance at Key Stage 2."

St Martin's Church of England Primary School was rated Good by Ofsted following an inspection in 2015.
