Team to raise safeguarding issues with local shoppers

October 26, 2015

Members of Wolverhampton’s Safeguarding Adults and Children Boards will be raising awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and other forms of abuse during Safeguarding Week, which begins on Monday (26 October, 2015).

They will be hosting drop-in sessions in Wolverhampton, Wednesfield and Bilston throughout the week, and are keen to highlight the work being done to tackle abuse against children and adults in the city – and the key signs of abuse that people should look out for.

Representatives from Wolverhampton’s Safeguarding Adults and Children Boards and partner agencies, will be meeting shoppers in the Wulfrun Centre on Monday, Wolverhampton Market on Tuesday, Wednesfield Market on Wednesday and Bilston Market on Thursday and Friday, all from 10am-2pm, to discuss any concerns they may have and offer advice and support.

The council works alongside the police, health services and charity and Third Sector organisations to support and protect the most vulnerable members of society.

Councillor Val Gibson, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Safeguarding Week is an opportunity for our Safeguarding team to tell people about the services available to help keep vulnerable people safe in Wolverhampton.

"Our teams work very hard protecting children and young people, the elderly and people with disabilities who are at risk of abuse – but they also need the help of the public who will be able to help identify people who are most at risk."

Anyone who is concerned that someone they know is either being abused, or may be at risk of abuse, is asked to call the council in confidence as soon as possible. For concerns relating to children and young people, please call 01902 555392, while if the concerns relate to adults, please call 01902 551199. If the call is made out of office hours, people should dial 01902 552999. In an emergency, please dial 999.
