Primary pupils receive invitation to Royal party

September 8, 2015

Primary school pupils across Wolverhampton will be tucking into a special street party menu to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II becoming the country’s longest-reigning monarch tomorrow (Wednesday 9 September, 2015).

They will enjoy a platter of cheese and ham rolls, pizza, sweet potato whirls, veggie sausage rolls, crudités and garlic bread, followed by fresh fruit, blueberry muffins and Queen of Pudding cake as the nation marks 63 years and 216 days since the Queen came to the throne on 6 February, 1952.

In doing so, she will take the record for the longest serving monarch in the United Kingdom, previously been held by Queen Victoria, who reigned for 23,226 days.

This week's special lunch is one of range of one-off menus provided by the City of Wolverhampton Council's Catering Team to celebrate events like Diwali, Bonfire Night and Chinese New Year.

The rest of the year, they serve up a wide range of other nutritious meals from traditional favourites like roast dinners, sausage and mash, chicken curry and fish and chips to lighter options like vegetable casserole, jacket potatoes, fishcakes and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Like all school meals, the Royal buffet is free to more than 8,000 Key Stage 1 pupils in Wolverhampton, as well as those in Key Stage 2 who meet certain eligibility requirements.
