Council launches development programmes for school leaders

September 7, 2015

School leaders from across Wolverhampton are set to take part in unique development programmes commissioned by the City of Wolverhampton Council.

The council's School Standards Service has teamed up with Edge Hill University in Liverpool and Inspire, the Wolverhampton Local Education Partnership, to offer five leadership and development programmes over the coming year.

They will give school leaders the opportunity to work with inspirational education leaders from around the country, and develop their own skills for the benefit of their pupils.

The programmes focus on various aspects of education, including preparing for Ofsted inspections, supporting existing and aspiring headteachers and developing the skills of governors.

The programmes will be officially unveiled at a special event for school leaders on Friday 11th September, 2015.

Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We've done a lot to improve school standards in Wolverhampton over the last few years, and these bespoke leadership and development programmes will continue this excellent work.

“They will provide a unique opportunity for school leaders to work with some of the country’s most inspirational figures who are leading the way in cutting-edge thinking about educational management, and in turn will help senior staff continue drive forward improvements within their own schools.

“As a result, we hope to see even better leadership in our schools, with a stronger network of headteachers and school leaders, improved schools with better Ofsted outcomes, particularly in relation to leadership, and ultimately better outcomes for the students of Wolverhampton.

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Edge Hill University and the Local Education Partnership (Inspire) on this project, and this week's event will allow the school leaders to gain an insight into the various programmes being delivered over the academic year.”
